Canyonlands Deadfall

This painting is watercolor on paper. This old tree was lying at one of the overlooks in Canyonlands national park in Utah. I spent several hours enjoying the vistas offered in this amazing park and took many photos of the beautiful scenery. I decided to paint this old tree because of the contrast between the color and texture of the tree and the surrounding rocky terrain. I Love the desert colors and tried to make the tree look three dimensional on the page.
