Owyhee Sunset

While serving as Artist in Residence for the Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness Area, I explored this area with a couple wilderness rangers. As the sun began to set, the landscape took on an almost magical glow. I knew I would need to paint it, but capturing the effect I wanted in watercolor would be tedious, so I put it off for a number of years. One day, the mood struck, and I had to dig in. I love how watercolor handles, its luminosity, and I enjoy the challenge of such detailed light effects.
